Reach new heights

ELEVATING STANDARDS

Since 1989

Sioux Falls Tower & Communications was founded in 1989 and rebranded to VIKOR in 2019. Our team continues under the original ownership and management today. We are a full-service wireless infrastructure construction company. Our customers include all of the national and many regional wireless carriers, public utilities as well as wind energy developers, oil and gas, and government agencies.

SAFETY IS IN OUR DNA

VIKOR has always strived to be a leader in the industry when it comes to safety. Our safety and training department has developed an extensive in-house training curriculum that is customized to meet our customer needs. We also partner with local technical schools such as Southeast Technical College to increase the number of tower technicians in the workforce.

ON-SITE TRAINING
TOWERS

Our on-site training towers make it very easy to train new hires and to perform yearly recertifications at our facilities. We test and practice fall protection, rescue techniques, rigging and hoisting, tower installation and maintenance, as well as perform NWSA testing and recertifications.

DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION

All field employees are trained in safe driving practices and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance. VIKOR bears the cost of training and licensing its drivers. DOT has stringent rules for health and drug-free operation of equipment. VIKOR strictly abides all DOT regulations. Like our on-the-job safety record, our driving record is impeccable.

A STORIED HISTORY

March 1984
Craig Snyder takes a job as a tower climber for Centauri Tower, embarking on a journey he could have never imagined. These were the days of free-climbing tower (no 100% tie off) and lots of work on tall towers 1,000 to 2,000 feet. Craig works for Centauri Tower and is a member of the “suicide squad”.(Craig, Todd Thorin, David Moyar, Jimmy Cooper, Maynard Hatle, Paul Bezting III)
August 1988
Paul Betzing Jr, Craig Snyder's boss passes away in a car accident setting in place a series of events that puts Craig in a position to eventually start Sioux Falls Tower.
April 1989
Craig Snyder, Bart Roberts, Edwin Stritecky start Sioux Falls Tower Specialists, Inc. Our main clients are radio and TV broadcast companies and cable TV providers.
September 1990
An underground anchor shaft on a 350’  tower we were inspecting in Langdon, ND suddenly fails with Bart Roberts and Eric Snyder up tower at the 180 foot mark. Craig is the lone person on the ground at the time. Both men miraculously survive the falling of the tower although severely injured. Cause of the failure was undetected underground corrosion. This puts Sioux Falls Tower on a mission to find the cause and create a solution so it doesn’t happen again following VIKOR’s present Vision Statement – To elevate the industry for the betterment of everyone.
April 1994
Sioux Falls Tower starts sister company AnchorGuard to provide a solution to the guy anchor corrosion problem. Eventually installing this revolutionary technology on thousands of towers coast to coast.

February 1996
Congress signs into law the Telecommunications Act of 1996, launching the era of digital cell phones (2G technology) and granting licenses to multiple cell phone companies. Before that cell phones were analog and there were only two cell phone companies in any given market. Sioux Falls Tower experiences exponential growth building many brand new 2G towers, especially for Sprint.
1997
Sioux Falls Tower forms two new sister companies, Intermountain Tower in Orem UT and Sioux Falls Tower South in Greensville, SC. Eventually Sioux Falls Tower South would be closed and Intermountain Tower would merge with Sioux Falls Tower in 2016.
